View All Critic Reviews Aug 05, Russell's 'I Heart Huckabees' is a unique and quirky film that proves to be too frazzled and quick.
It loses it's viewer in most of the frenzy of what's going on and doesn't allow any catch up time.
The cast is excellent though, with a Mark Wahlberg that really stands out as the most committed here. It's hard to follow this frantic existential film, but 'I Heart Huckabees' is an original experience that has a few tricks up its' sleeve.
Kase V Super Reviewer. Apr 07, An eccentric existential comedy that is all over the place, I Heart Huckabees has a number of elements that just barely work separately, but when put together they form a mess of a movie that's only sporadically funny.
It starts out interestingly enough, but after about 15 minutes it quickly devolves into a chaotic combination of increasingly preposterous side plots and characters.
There are a few mildly entertaining scenes, but for the most part I Heart Huckabees just drowns in pseudo-intellectual dialogue and pretension.
The movie has a complete lack of focus and makes for a waste of a talented cast and a huge disappointment, especially considering the generally reliable David O.
Many cues used in the film feature a Chamberlin , a keyboard instrument from the s that replicates instrumental sounds using recorded tape.
In an advertising campaign for the film, four fictional websites were created. They were portrayed as if they were actual websites involving the characters and organizations featured in the film.
Each website had a link called "Disclaimer" at the bottom that leads to FOX Searchlight's official website for the film.
Websites were rendered inactive a few months after release, each now redirecting to FOX Searchlight's website.
The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics. Some critics were displeased with the existential subject matter and said the script was unfocused, while others celebrated its performances especially Wahlberg as Tommy Corn and originality.
